Do I need to make an appointment to try on dresses?

We always strongly recommend making an appointment Mondays through Saturdays, as it is the only way we can ensure that you will have a dressing room and a consultant available to you on busy days.  We always do our very best to accommodate walk-ins on Mondays through Saturdays.

 

We require an appointment for Sunday visits – to ensure a quieter environment, we cannot accommodate walk-ins on Sundays.

Do we need to remove our shoes in your shop?

Yes, we do ask that you remove your shoes or cover your shoes in provided booties when shopping at Shades of White. This practice is an industry-wide request still held by many Bridal gown shops in an effort to maintain the integrity of Gown samples as well as the cleanliness of our clients gowns as many of them walk around the shop in the gown they will wear on their wedding day.

If you’d like to bring in slippers or anything else, we encourage it for comfort. If you have concerns about this policy, please let us know and we are absolutely willing to work with you and your comfort levels.

What are the price ranges of items in your shop?

Bridal Gowns $269-$3,800

Bridesmaids Dresses $149-$389

Prom Gowns $199-$789

Cocktail $169-$789

Shades of White has a revolving sale rack with incredible deals and has approximately 3 major sample sales per year.

What sample sizes do you carry?

We carry hundreds of gowns and dresses in sample sizes ranging from size 2 – 26 and many are orderable in sizes 00-32. Using clips, modesty panels and your comfort level, we will use samples in many different sizes to showcase different styles on you, and then order in the most appropriate size for you!

Do you offer Champagne? Or may we bring champagne?

As much as we (very, very much!) love to celebrate we cannot accommodate the consumption of alcoholic beverages in our shop.  Despite the newly changed laws around this, we do not hold a liquor license due to the (unfortunate) additional responsibilities and liabilities associated for both our business and our beloved staff and clients.

How long does it take to Special Order items?

Bridal: approximately 5-7 months

 

Bridesmaids & Flower Girls: approximately 3-5 months

*ask us about rush options as quick as 6 weeks

 

Prom: approximately 3-4 months

 

Accessories: approximately 2-5 months

 

We have many incredible options for off-rack purchases as well, but encourage you to leave yourself plenty of time to keep your options open and avoid any rush charges.

Do you offer alterations?

We work closely with two different seamstresses who have lengthy and successful careers altering Bridal wear on Vancouver Island and abroad. You may meet them in our shop by appointment, or in their studios. They run their businesses independently and set their own pricing – you’re more than welcome to a free quote anytime.

Our clients are not obligated to use these seamstresses in any way and are welcome to shop around for these services. We simply suggest that our clients only use seamstresses who are experienced with Bridal Garments.

Are alterations included in the price of the gown?

No, the price of alterations is always above and beyond the price of the dress. We are certainly happy to discuss those prices and/or arrange for you to meet with a seamstress for a free quote!
